What we’re writing
Memecoins have become a thing, even outside of crypto. That was particularly true when Donald Trump launched his own memecoin, just before he was inaugurated as president. So what are memecoins?
Imagine dumb online memes and a cryptocurrency having a baby. Obviously, there’s a bit more to it so we put a beginner’s guide together.
Find out more about memecoins and why you should care about the latest hype.

What we’re reading
Donald Trump made a lot of headlines with his own memecoin. But is there something bigger at stake?
Shortly after the launch, Fortune looked at the details and the potential impacts. Spoiler alert: Many things could go wrong, and that wouldn’t just be bad for the crypto industry which already has a less than stellar reputation.
It’s a really good read that combines crypto, finance, politics and some other stuff.

What we’re trying
Enough about memecoins. What about the underlying tech?
That’s actually quite interesting. Many memecoins have been launched on the Solana blockchain in recent months. However, Solana has a lot of other – and arguably more useful – projects as well. Big financial institutions are working with Solana, and there are lots of other enterprise use cases as well.
If you want to have a look yourself, you would first need a wallet. Phantom is a very good choice: It’s free to download and it’s easy to use, even when you’re not very experienced with blockchains at all.
The Phantom website also has a lot of guides for beginners. It’s worth a try, and there’s not much that you can do wrong.
One more thing: Feel free to subscribe to get our content straight to your inbox. We’ll even try not to be boring. 😉

That’s the end for today! 😢
